Background

Sandeep joined the Centre for SMART in December 2015 as a Research Assistant to investigate environmental sustainability in food supply chains. He holds a B.Tech in Food Technology from North Maharashtra University, India; a Master’s Degree in Bio-Food Technology from Lund University in Sweden; and an MBA from the University of Applied Sciences-Stralsund, Germany. He has more than 10 years of work experience in the food industry in various roles which includes R&D, Technical and Quality, and more recent being Production and Planning (Supply Chain). He has worked for leading UK food manufacturers (Greencore, Kerry, Noble).

Research Interests & Activities

Sandeep’s primary research focus is on the study of food supply chains to identify issues associated with a high environmental impact and to ascertain sources of uncertainty within the supply chain affecting sustainability of the whole chain with an aim to reduce the consumption of material, energy and water.   

Research interests:

-       Environmental impact of food processes

-       Resource efficiency in food manufacturing

-       Minimization of usage of resources (material, energy and water)

Research activities:

-       Researcher in sustainable food manufacturing within the EPSRC Centre for Innovative Manufacturing in Food in collaboration with the University of Nottingham and University of Birmingham; Unilever, PepsiCo and Nestle amongst other leading food companies.

-       Currently studying for a doctorate at Loughborough University on Sustainable Food Supply Chains
