Background

Yingying graduated with first class honours from Loughborough University in 2008 with a MEng in Product Design and Manufacturing Engineering. The third year of her degree was spent on placement in industry at 3M Healthcare Plc UK where she worked as a Process Engineer with Inhalation Drug Delivery team. During her 4th and 5th year of her degree, she was heavily involved projects based on sustainability. Keen to deepen her knowledge in this area, upon graduation, Yingying joined the SMART Centre in July 2008 as a research student under the EPSRC research grant. Her research work is based on modelling the embodied energy with a product, i.e. how much energy is needed to make a unit product. It is envisaged that this novel approach will provide greater energy transparency for improvements in production and design for energy minimisation.
