RoHS

The Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS) was adopted in February 2003 by the European Union and took effect from 1 July 2006. The directive was implemented in the UK through the RoHS Regulation 2008, and enforced by the National Measurement Office (NMO).

This directive aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the electrical and electronic equipment by restricting the usage of six hazardous materials in manufacturing various type of electrical and electronic equipment as defined by the WEEE directive. These six materials include:-

  1. Lead
  2. Mercury
  3. Cadmium
  4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)
  5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)
  6. Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)
