Background

Mike holds an PhD and an Msc in Engineering Design both from Loughborough University and a Beng (hons) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of west of England (Bristol).  Mike joined the SMART team in 2008, where he is currently working as a research associate investigating the recycling of footwear. This industrially orientated project is focused on the creation of bespoke recycling processes, the design improvements to facilitate improved recycling and the supporting businesses models to ensure the footwear recycling can become an economically feasible alternative to landfill.  In addition to his current research within the centre, Mike has a strong interest in product design and computerised support tools. And in 2010 Mike gained his PhD in the field of modular product design, where he developed a computerised optimisation framework for the configuration of modular product architecture.
