Background

A member of the IOP, (now IOM³), James gained a BSc with honours in Design and Innovation Management and a Diploma in Design alongside a full time career as an international consultant in packaging management, design, innovation and strategy . James is now engaged in a two year research project at Loughborough University within the SMART group on ‘Bio-derived Polymers for Sustainable Packaging Design’, as well as undertaking a full time MPhil, in the commercial application of biopolymers. Prior to taking up this full time post at Loughborough, James was the editor of two international packaging publications and their associated websites, the editor-in-chief of Euroasia Industry Magazine, as well as the author of a number of market intelligence reports, covering the area of packaging design, innovation, management and strategy.

 

James began his career in packaging over 20 years ago, after leaving the London Stock Exchange, with a London based management consultancy - the Packaging Group Ltd. James went on to become a founding director of the internationally based James Ross Consulting Ltd and was later appointed Head of Design and Innovation at Pira International now part of Ciba Expert Services (BASF). During his consultancy career James has completed numerous packaging design and innovation projects on famous global brands for leading blue-chip companies such as Nike, Microsoft, BAE, Heinz, Reckitt Benckiser, Total, Mars, Tesco and Mondi as well as participating in a number of EU, DTI and Industry funded initiatives. In addition to these commercial projects, as part of a UK government funded project, James studied Kansei engineering in Japan and contributed to a DTI report and various workshops on it’s relevance to and application for UK business. James also established the product/packaging technology.
