Background

Elliot graduated from the Nottingham Trent University in 2003 with an MPhys in Applied Physics. During his MPhys, an industry orientated course, Elliot spent a semester working in placement at British Gypsum where he carried out research into the understanding of resonate frequencies of complex composite panels. Following his MPhys course, Elliot went on to gain a PhD from the University of Nottingham in the field of atomic physics and nuclear magnetic resonance, with a particular focus on production methods of hyperpolarised noble gasses for in vivo lung studies. Graduating from Nottingham in 2007, Elliot joined Pera Innovation, a research and technology organisation based in Leicestershire, as a technology consultant. Forming a key member of the most successful team within Pera, Elliot was responsible for constructing successful proposals for national and internal funding calls. To facilitate this, Elliot worked closely with SME companies to develop R&D ideas, identify market opportunities, construct robust business plans and exploitation strategies and put together consortia to share project work where required. Some of the projects Elliot worked on at Pera included subjects as diverse as rainwater harvesting, RFID location devices, nanoparticle detection, straw gasification for CHP and high speed textile colour monitoring. Elliot joined the Centre for SMART in May 2010 in a research development capacity, to produce a long term strategy for the group, coordinate research proposals and to promote the growth of the Centre with an aim to generate a number of future industrial and academic collaborations.
