• To develop methods and associated tools and resources that will enable practitioners
to address issues of social inclusion/exclusion and to evaluate the impact of interventions.
• To establish and develop live Testbed areas and sites as real-world, controlled
facilities for testing integrated approached to policy, design and operation.
• To
develop methods for ensuring the that perceptions and views of people who experience
transport-related social exclusion are incorporated into policies and practices.
• To identify and understand the conditions which are necessary for, which are helpful
for, or which hinder the implementation of inclusive and sustainable policy, design
and operation.
• To develop a set of evaluation methodologies that provide a measurable
assessment of the accessibility and social inclusion/exclusion obtained from a given
element or set of elements in the journey environment.
• To deliver a critical examination
of current policies and practices in terms of their impact on social inclusion/exclusion
from the user's perspective.
• To facilitate the development of transferable solutions
and the dissemination of best practice.

The shared vision is to produce rigorous methodologies for sustainable policies and
practices that will deliver effective socially inclusive design and operation in
transport and the public realm from macro down to micro level.
Industrial Partners:

RICS Foundation, Greater Manchester PTE, South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive,
Bristol City Council, Brighton and Hove City Council, British Transport Police, and
